REVIEW: Disney on Ice Mickey's Search Party

By Macaroni Kid Tracy September 8, 2018

Disney on Ice is in town, and I was lucky enough to be given tickets to attend in exchange for a review of the show.  This year, Disney on Ice’s theme is Mickey’s Search Party.  Tinkerbell was captured by Captain Hook and his pirates while the classic Disney characters Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy had to work to fill up the Magic Meter to unlock her.

There was a lot of audience participation in the show this year.  Clues were given on a map and the audience had to figure out which group of characters would come out next to perform.  There was one little technical difficulty during the show, but during the few minutes they spent fixing it, the audience was not left at bay.  There were 2 performers who came out and entertained the audience.  The show then resumed right where it left off.

Highlights from the first half of the show:

  • Mickey’s Crew, a.k.a. Dancers, opened the show with the classic characters of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy.
  • Captain Hook and his pirates appeared to capture Tinkerbell
  • Belle and friends skated to “Be Our Guest” and there were air acrobatics during this song.
  • Beloved Toy Story characters and Green Army Men skated and worked together to get a ball off the shelf in Andy’s Room.
  • Moana and Maui appeared.  Moana skated around the ice, but also was moved in a very cool boat!  It was during this time the technical difficulty occurred, but like I said, they fixed it and started right where it left off.
  • Coco appeared this year with some amazing dancers and acrobatics.

There was a brief intermission, which was a perfect time to take the kids to the bathroom so you didn’t miss any of this amazing show!

Highlights from the second half of the show:

  • Captain Hook and Smee reappears to remind you to continue to fill up the Magic Meter.
  • Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, and Genie skate to a few songs.
  • Some characters from Little Mermaid skate and fly through the air.  This was my favorite set of costumes.
  • Lastly, but not least, it is time for the beloved characters of Frozen.  Kristoff, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf skate to some popular songs from the movie. It’s during this time the Magic Meter is full and Tinkerbell is released.
  • All characters come together to skate for the encore.

Overall, even though there was a slight technical difficulty, the show was amazing and something you and your family should definitely check out this weekend as it comes highly recommended.  There are still 5 shows this weekend, and you can get your tickets here.
