I'm Michelle, the publisher and editor of Macaroni KID Winter Garden-Ocoee. I love meeting and getting to know people. This is how I get to learn about amazing people and how they are impacting our community in positive ways. Through the Macaroni KID newsletter and website, I get to write articles and am introducing a new feature: Community Spotlight! In our second Community Spotlight, we get to learn more about Chloe and her daughter Lyric. Lyric owns Lyric's Lemonade and you may have seen her lemonade stand at the Winter Garden Farmers Market. Chloe, her mom, runs the stand on Saturdays. Here, they give us a glimpse into their mother-daughter relationship and how they are changing our community for the better! I'd love for you to subscribe to Macaroni KID Winter Garden-Ocoee.
Tell us where you’re from and how you came to Winter Garden.
Chloe: I am originally from Winter Garden. I moved to Rex, Georgia when I was nine and moved back to Winter Garden in 2012. Lyric was born in Winter Garden.
Lyric- How did you come up with the idea of Lyric’s Lemonade? What preparation and learning did you do to start your business?
I told mommy I wanted to make lemonade and sell it to the community. So we went and got all the supplies and I began to make different flavors of lemonade. I had to learn my measurements to make my lemonade really good. I had to learn how to be patient because I messed up a lot.
Chloe- What advice do you have for moms with a child who is an entrepreneur?
The advice I will give to moms that have little entrepreneurs is to stick beside them. Allow them to follow their dreams. Inspire them and always encourage them with hard work, your dreams can be a reality.
Lyric- What kind of support did you need from your mom to get this going?
I need support from mommy with taking me to the store to buy my lemons, she helps me print my labels and she also helps me order my bottles. Mommy also helps me by going to the Winter Garden Farmers Market to sell my delicious lemonade.
Chloe- What are some important traits you’ve focused on while raising Lyric?
Important traits I have focused on while raising Lyric, is number one, instilling the love of God in her heart. I raised her to always acknowledge God in all that she does and He will guide her and give her the desires of heart. I have raised her to have a voice and to speak up for what is always right, even if she stands alone. I let her know daily that being kind to all people is what God loves the most.
Chloe - How have you seen these come to fruition so far?
Yes, yes. yes. Even at eleven-years-old, her trust and love for God is amazing. She is flourishing into a beautiful person in and out. She is always praying for her community, she will always give whatever she has to anyone, and she loves to give a percentage of her lemonade sales to the church.
Lyric - If another kid wanted to start their own business, what advice do you have?
I will to tell them to just do it. Sometimes it gets hard and you will mess up, but don't give up. Always pray to God and things will work out.
Chloe - you’re very involved with our community. What projects are you currently working on and why are they important to you?
YES, I LOVE THE COMMUNITY. One thing I know for sure is that God loves when we take care of one another. There's so much joy in being kind and spreading love all around. I believe we all have a purpose to fulfill in life. Mine is to let my light shine wherever I go because someone can use a heartfelt message or a hug. I do advocate in East Winter Garden Community. I am here to serve the people and to let them know we are better together. I have a women's ministry called I am HER WOMEN EMPOWERMENT, where girls and women of all ages walk in their destiny and know they matter. They can be whatever they want, with God on their side and hard work and dedication. It's so important to do the things I do in my community because I know I have Lyric and so many others who are watching. I have to be doer, and not just a reader ,of God's word.
Lyric- What are your future goals?
My goal is to have my lemonade in all the stores in all the world.
As we wrap up, what are your favorite local spots to eat out? For dessert? For fun?
Some of our favorite spots are Scoops Ice Cream, The WHOLE Enchilada, The Hangry Bison, and the splash pad. We love bike riding on the bike trail and we love to go sit at Lake Apopka and relax.
From Michelle - I first stopped at Lyric's Lemonade stand one Saturday morning because of Chloe's friendliness. You could just feel her positive spirit emanating from her. I'm so glad to have gotten to know her! If you want to know more, or become involved in her community events, check out her Facebook page.
